Perfect setting for our extended family of 6. The listing might want to list that the dock is a long flight of stairs down from the house. I wouldn't want to bring a canoe and have to navigate that climb.

Love to hear that everyone in the family had a wonderful experience with us at Fair Winds Ed! Thank you for the feedback and please come see us again soon!

Home with Great Potential in an Amazing Location!

Reviewed on 2022-05-25 by Sharon Throckmorton

The home and location was incredibly peaceful and serene. However, equally, a little TLC would go a long way. The master bathtub was not clean, outdoor side walkway is in need of repair, eyelet on stove counter top needs replacing, screen to sliding door was off its hinge, and there were quite a bit of cobwebs. Also, the tv in bedroom at top of stairs was non-functioning. Perhaps all of these things would not have been so noticeable had it not been for the need for better quality mattresses in all bedrooms. My entire party awoke with aches and pains, resulting in a huge damper to stay, and cancellation of some planned activities. If these things are addressed, I have no doubt, visitors, including myself, would return over and over again!

Hi, Sharon. We want to thank you for taking the time to offer specific and constructive criticism of your stay at Fair Winds. We are so glad to hear that you found the home and location peaceful. Isn't that most fleeting of experiences exactly what we most of us seek in our vacations? We definitely understand how little things can have a direct effect on the entire atmosphere of your stay, and we are so sorry to hear that's exactly what happened to you, and your peacefulness. We will be forwarding your feedback to the homeowner for consideration. Our homeowners are very interested in providing their guest's with a wonderful experience, and will no doubt take the necessary steps to assess and as necessary, correct these problems. The feedback you provided about the walkway and cleanliness of the master bathtub we will forward to maintenance and housekeeping; however, we do have guest services on call 24/7 to assist our guests, and provide this phone number to everyone upon check in. Finally, we want to apologize that your group had to cut their stay short. This is not something we ever want to hear. The mattresses in Fair Winds were replaced less than a year ago. Mattresses can be a really a tricky thing. Comfort in a mattress is very individualized, some people sleep better on a hard mattress, while others prefer a soft one. We hope you will give us another chance when you are ready to visit Deep Creek lake for another vacation. We would love to host you again. -Susan, Railey Vacations

Great location on Paradise Point

My wife and I and our daughter, son-in-law and their 3-month old daughter spent 4 nights at Fair Winds. The house was just as described on the Railey website. We were worried about cleanliness based on other reviews but we found the house to be very clean, spacious and comfortable. We rented kayaks from the nearby Silver Tree Marina and explored the nearby parts of the lake with them. We enjoyed swimming off the dock and eating meals on the deck. The only critical comment I would note is that the fourth bedroom is very small. Of course that didn't matter to us because we only needed two bedrooms.

We're so glad to know that Fair Winds met all of your needs and expectations, David! Thank you for staying with us. We hope you'll visit again soon! - Lainey, Railey Vacations

Has Potential

This home has great potential to receive 5/5 stars. However, at this time, I can only give it 3/5 stars. Before I share my concerns, which I hope will be remedied by the owners, here are many of the great things about this house. The house was a new listing, and I could tell that it was newly painted and had new carpet. There was a new, comfortable sectional sofa with plenty of seating, which was perfect for our family group of 6. There was a lovely kitchen table, a fully stocked kitchen with new stainless-steel appliances and granite countertops and it was delightful to look out of the windows and doors in the living room and see the lake. Despite not having air conditioning (No A/C was clearly stated in the description), there are fans in every bedroom and in the living room which keep the rooms cool. When we arrived, although the air was stagnant from lack of air circulation, we opened up the windows and doors, and aired the house out in about 30 minutes, making it very comfortable. I was pleased to see that the window and door screens were in excellent shape, without any rips or tears. The driveway is flat and circular, making it easy to park. The area is quiet and the rooms are cool and dark at night. This house has tremendous potential. However, I have a few concerns that need to be addressed, before I would consider staying here again. 1. Bathroom Cleanliness: While the rest of the house was clean and tidy (including the kitchen and the linens), I was disturbed that the bathrooms did not meet my expectations. There was clear evidence from previous occupants (soap scum and hair), and we spent the first evening cleaning. Had Will O' the Wisp had vacancies, we probably would have left. I was additionally bothered by the amount of cobwebs in the house. There were cobwebs in many corners and on the baseboards, in addition to many of the lampshades. While I understand that there are going to be some bugs when you're in the woods, the webs should have been vacuumed up before we arrived, which also would have lessened the number of "web-creators" that we captured and released during our stay. Fortunately, none of us are squeamish. It appeared to me that the house had been cleaned (minus the bathrooms) and then vacated for several weeks before we arrived. When a house in the woods is left vacant, nature starts taking over. 2. Uncomfortable Beds: Unfortunately, the mattresses were hard, cheap and uncomfortable. None of the mattresses had toppers and 2/3 bed frames were creaky and wobbly. After the first night of poor sleep, we went to WalMart to purchase padding to put on the beds. It helped a little, but in the middle of the 2nd night, I moved downstairs to the sleep sofa, which was by far the most comfortable bed in the house. We enjoyed our next day at Deep Creek, but left that afternoon, because no one wanted to sleep on the beds for our 3rd and final night. In conclusion, this house has great potential if the cleanliness issue is remedied and money is invested in purchasing high quality mattresses and toppers and better bed frames. I hope that the owners take these issues into consideration, because I would really love to see this house be the amazing vacation home that it can be.

Hi, Ginny - thanks for your review. The owners of Fair Winds were sorry to hear of the issues you experienced with the beds and cleaning during your stay. They have purchased new beds that will be delivered late August 2021, and they are also having a deep clean of the home done at the same time. We appreciate your feedback and hope this information will weigh into your decision to visit Fair Winds again soon! - Lainey, Railey Vacations
