The location was great and close to many restaurants. The house needed some maintenance and it could be five stars.

Most people love leaving glowing reviews because they feel compelled to, like they owe something - this isn't me. I rate based on price vs value. That said, if an option, I'd actually give 3.5 stars, mostly because of the indoor pool and hot tub. I'm going to start with things you should know:1) They are not kidding about bears in the area. We saw some across the road - really. Don't leave food out. We were less than 20 feet from them. A mother and 3 cubs. Luckily we were in the car and she didn't seem to think us a threat so kept an eye on us but didn't feel compelled to approach. Saw deer across the road and behind the house as well. 2) This house isn't really on a road. It's more of a semi-paved driveway and not obviously not just a driveway when you first see it. You'll probably miss the turn the first time because you can't even see the sign until you're directly in front of it as you drive by. And with spotty GPS and phone service in the area, it will probably tell you the turn is somewhere other than where it is. So when you see the driveway on the left when you're close to where the house is - that's the road. 3) The house lacks hand soap in the bathrooms. I always go to a house first to see what's there and what isn't before going to the store. This often involves a stop at the bathroom after a long car ride. It's not fun finding out that there's no soap then. The half bath on the main floor by the front door has a soap dispenser but no soap (and you can't even use it because the nozzle on it is broken.) I left mostly full containers there. I'm wondering if they'll still be there for the next renter. I've stayed in probably dozens of rentals at this point and have never experienced this. 4) They send the pool guy every day. If you're not there, he has his own code to get in. He was a nice guy but wasn't expecting to have a random person show up that had to come in and who had his own code to get in if we weren't there. Good guy but it's still weird.5) It's hard to get the house cool. The thermostats are in bad locations as they cool down well before the rest of the house does. 6) The pool room is alarmed because of regulations regarding children - it's a good thing. That said, the pool alarm instructions lie. If you hold in the button for 2 seconds, the alarm will go off. You just press it and release and then go through the door.7) The cupboards are pretty bare. Most rentals I've stayed in always had at least some of the basic pantry items (salt and pepper and usually other spices, some aluminum foil, some ziploc bags, etc - none of that here.) There are basic plates, bowls, glasses and coated non-stick cookware (the type you shouldn't really use.) There are also the 'black' kitchen utensils that everything says you shouldn't use. What you'll find missing are any particularly useful cooking tools. They do have a large selection of wine glasses, though.8) Beware the grills. While the grates were clean, the inside was not. It didn't look so bad that it would be a problem but I was wrong. Had to use the fire extinguisher from the kitchen when the inside caught while pre-heating and kept burning bigger after I turned all of the gas off. Also, the only grill utensil to be found was a long turning fork. No scraper, brush, flipper, tongs, etc.9) Bring matches or a lighter. If you want to use the fire pit or the wood fireplace in the living room, there's nothing to light the wood with. I similarly left some long matches behind and wonder if they'll still be there for the next renter.10) It's unlikely you're getting a boat trailer into the parking area. It's a downward slope into the parking area but the swing space is too short to easily turn into either the parking area in front of the house or the garage. If you bring a boat, I'd suggest getting a spot at one of the marinas during your stay and taking it straight there.11) The main door isn't the one with the code lock. When I first approached the door after arriving, I was concerned that there didn't seem to be any way to open it. Instead, there's a door beside the garages that is hard to see at first. It is also a very high step up into the house (there should be another stair there but isn't - it's hard for even someone tall to get into - shorter people will have trouble getting in.12) The dryer works but is finicky. It sometimes took 2 or 3 tries to get it to start which you do by turning the dial to the desired setting and then pulling on it (if it doesn't pull up, push it in first and then pull up.) There's zero laundry detergent there so you'll need some before you do laundry.13) Railey leaves a bag full of some helpful items that you may not have at first such as a role of paper towels, a couple of dishwasher tabs, a couple of extra rolls of toilet paper (which is weird because no hand soap) and then a tiny bottle of dish soap - which works for hand soap until you get something else but only if you know it's there and I don't know if the bag contains the same items every time. 14) If you haven't been to the area before, many things close kind of early. With a 4 pm check-in time, you're best off trying to bring everything you need at least for the first night and I'd suggest eating out that first night because any plans you may have for cooking may not work out when you see what's there.15) You have to haul your garbage to a nearby dumpster. This isn't as bad as it may sound and isn't uncommon in the area so is far from unique to this place. The most important thing to note about is that while there may be garbage bags in the cans, they are the cheap ones. I'd strongly recommend investing in a package of the really good ones either to put in the cans or to put the bags from the cans in. Spilling garbage in your car is not the type of experience that you want on your vacation.16) While all of the bedrooms have bathrooms, the showers on 2 of them are problematic for tall people due to sloping ceilings. 17) The house has little in the way of sound dampening. Sound carries pretty well throughout. So if you're blasting a movie in the movie room, others are going to hear it. And not just the rooms directly next to or above. Since the top floor has a loft area where the pool table is, obviously anyone talking up there can be easily heard throughout the main floor. 18) There's no instructions for the movie room. The Logitech remote in the charging cradle on the left is what you have to use to control everything and you have to manually turn on the projector using the power button which is the button closest to the lit led light facing down. The screen on the remote is a touch screen. There's no TV service. You have to use the streaming services. Most of them require you to sign in with your account. You should not do this unless you are sure you will sign out of every service on every device (and there's a lot of them throughout the house) before you leave. You're generally not there to watch TV but there will always be down time. That said, the house is nice enough and pretty large. The pool/hot tub room is pretty great if not overly hot and humid. The WiFi worked pretty well while we were there, enough to stream HD TV while computers and phones were going. But other than a few items of furniture, everything seemed like it came from an Amazon Basics shopping list. Not that such things are inherently bad but just don't expect to experience luxury. I'd also say that it's probably not a great house if there are a small number of children involved or children in a range of ages. There's not really any outdoor space and you're not on the lake. The pool is nice but isn't very big and probably not enough to keep tiring kids out. Since most of the activities around are weather dependent, keep this in mind as there's not much else for kids to do to burn off energy. Obviously mileage varies but just keep it in mind. All of that aside, I'm not sure that I would rent it again because I'm not sure it is worth the price overall but it isn't a clear call so I would at least consider it.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review, Ryan. We truly value constructive feedback like yours, as it helps us continue to improve both our homes and our guest experience. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the size of the home, the pool/hot tub area, and the WiFi reliability. As you noted, this home is tucked into a natural mountain setting, and while sightings of wildlife like deer and even bears can be a unique and memorable part of the Deep Creek Lake experience, we do understand that it can also be unexpected. Nature is a big part of what makes this area special, but it's also something we can't fully control. Regarding amenities, we do provide multiple reminders prior to arrival (through your rental agreement, confirmation emails, and the guest portal) about what is and isn’t provided at the home. We strive to set clear expectations so guests can pack accordingly or make a quick stop before check-in. That said, your feedback on the soap dispensers and other kitchen supplies is appreciated and has been passed along to our team for review. The pool technician does make scheduled visits to maintain a safe and sanitary pool environment, and we aim to balance guest privacy with routine care. We understand your concern and will revisit how this is communicated in advance. Thank you again for your honest review. We're always working to improve and hope to have the opportunity to host you again in the future with an even better experience. Madison, Railey Vacations

I'm going to start this review by saying that I'm not a person who likes heat - at all. I am happiest when it's cold out. Most people also love leaving glowing reviews because they feel compelled to, like they owe something - this also isn't me.

This house is amazing. It had all the amenities I wanted; indoor pool, Jacuzzi, a bathroom in each bedroom and the Kitchen is beautiful and spacious. There is a theater room that I never used because we played so many games and built fires in the fireplace. You cannot go wrong choosing this home..ooh and the pool table was an added bonus. SUMMER OR WINTER you will not be disappointed. I will come back in the summer to enjoy the deck, BBq and to go fishing.....The price for three days was well worth it as well

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic review, Christi! We are thrilled you found our home amazing and enjoyed all the amenities. It’s wonderful to know that you enjoyed the indoor pool, Jacuzzi, and spacious kitchen during your stay. We appreciate your kind words about our theater room and fireplace; it sounds like you had a fantastic time playing games and building fires! Your mention of planning a return visit in summer is truly exciting! We look forward to welcoming you back to enjoy our deck, BBQ facilities, and fishing opportunities! Madison, Railey Vacations

Overall it was a nice property with plenty of space and a great pool, hot tub, sauna and theater room. A few drawbacks: the second upstairs bedroom was advertised to have a queen bed and that bed is definitely a full size. Not very comfortable for two grown adults. The deck really needs some maintenance. Nails are sticking up and dangerous. The kitchen has NO sharp knives other than small steak knives. Also, even though the listing makes note that no soaps are provided, it seems fairly absurd to have a 7 bathroom home and not provide hand washing soaps for any of the bathrooms.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience Caroline! It is helpful for us to address any issues or discrepancies in the property's advertised amenities. We will look into the bed size and deck maintenance to ensure accurate information and a safe environment for our guests. Your review will assist us in improving the overall guest experience. The house was beautiful. It lived bigger than it looks on the oustside. Having a beautiful view of the lake was a nice setting. It needed a little updating with in the corners where the wall paper was starting to peel. The curtain tie back hardware in some rooms had previously been damaged and not fixed properly. The basement bathroom needs to be inspected for some tile damage and possible mold. The outdoor walkways could have been trimmed and poison ivy needed to be sprayed and disposed of. The deck was peeling and one board popped up at the end. The deck overall needs a lot of updating. It was large enough with plenty of table and chairs. The pool/hot tub/sauna were added perks to this home. The pool room got warm if you were not in the pool. Unfortunately due to bears, you cannot open the doors down below to let air in because the pool alarm goes off. (We asked the pool tech). It is also a safety thing for if you have children, which is a nice benefit. Especially being all indoors as well. The kitchen was lovely and had plenty of space for 14 of us. The theatre room was another added perk, but the smart remote was not synced to the dvd player and we could not watch movies the way we intended. We did not try any streaming services, but the tv still worked on the big screen. The stream shower was another added bonus and was nice to utilize. One in our party was handicapped, but the only handicapped showers were on the upper and lower levels that were inaccessible to this person. The pool table upstairs was fun and spacious to play. There was a lot of room overall where 14 people did not feel like they were on top of one another. It was also nice each bedroom having their own full bathroom. The additional fridge and mini fridge came in handy as well. After addressing some of the issues stated above, we would recommend this property overall and would stay there again.

Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback on your recent stay at our property Erica. We are delighted to hear that you found the house beautiful and spacious, with a lovely view of the lake. We appreciate your comments regarding areas that may need updating, such as the peeling wallpaper, damaged curtain tie back hardware, and potential tile damage in the basement bathroom. We take your feedback seriously and will address these issues promptly to ensure a more enjoyable experience for future guests. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, so we will also alert the homeowners to look into trimming outdoor walkways, disposing of poison ivy, and updating the deck. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the added perks of the pool/hot tub/sauna area, as well as the kitchen space for 14 people. We apologize for any inconvenience with the smart remote in the theatre room and accessibility issues for handicapped individuals - we will work have out IT department check on the smart remote. It's wonderful to know that overall you had a pleasant stay with us and would consider returning in the future after improvements have been made. Madison, Railey Vacations

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Casa De Lago. We are a group of 5 families with young kids so the biggest highlight for all was the indoor pool and hot tub. One of the main reasons we chose this house is the fact that there is an alarm on all of the doors with access to the pool. This helped to provide some peace of mind for all of the parents. The steam shower in the primary bedroom upstairs was a nice surprise. The home is very large and the trees did not disappoint with color. The home is in need of attention and repairs. The home is dusty, ceiling fans in bedrooms rattle loudly, the hot tub water not clean, bathroom towel racks off, as example. They do not have outside garbage cans, so understand you have to haul it to the "dump" they have set up, this is not given to you in your email preparing you for arrival. Given the cost of the rental of the home, you would expect more.

First off, I would stay here again. Everything was comfy and beautiful, from the home's cleanliness to the pool, sauna, and movie theatre. And the views were ahhhhmazing. But take note; the house needs some minor repairs. The first row of movie chairs did not recline (However, they called to let us know this three days before our arrival). The screen doors on the first and 2nd floors kept coming off the track, and one of the outside deck boards near the grill was very loose. The house has two refrigerators; the refrigerator in the laundry room had a cooler temperature than the kitchen's, so we used that one more. The stairs leading down to the movie theatre, sauna, and pool area are also very steep. Also, if you sleep in the bedroom next to the movie theatre- be prepared to hear surround sound from the movie theatre in your room. A pool tech stopped by to add some chemicals to the pool to prevent harmful bacteria. Lastly, having a pool alarm provided peace of mind (especially if you have young kids)., Again minor hiccups but overall a wonderful stay!

Hi Kandia! We appreciate you taking the time out to leave us with your feedback! I will continue to rent this house if available. The house itself was in great shape, and all the amenities were working appropriately. We had an issue in 2022 with the Sauna, but it was working this year. My only minor complaint is that the home should be provided some minor attention on the exterior.....the rear deck/paint is deteriorating. Also, I would suggest the maintenance folks clear the exterior patios of seasonal debris prior to a guests arrival....simply sweeping/hosing off the lower patios, etc. Has another great visit, and would recommend this home to anyone who enjoys entertaining their family.

This property needs a new rental pool. Needs some tweaking but overall a good choice for a larger home

Hi Bill! On behalf of the homeowners the Railey’s staff wanted to reach out and let you know they have made some improvements over the last 6 months. They have updated the hot tub, the movie theater, other small items around the home and the pool is now fully functional. We hope these upgrades improve future stays for renters and that we have the chance to rent to you again in the near future!
