Waterfront Retreat-Did not meet expectationsIn July 2024, we were excited to reserve Waterfront Retreat for the third week in July 2025, even considering the premium $16,000 (without insurance) cost.Leading up to our vacation week, our interactions with Railey were excellent. When we entered the Waterfront Retreat house itself, we were impressed with the layout of the main floor and this worked well for us. There was a basket with some “tags” to be used to show when using certain community amenities. There was information on the kitchen refrigerator door concerning the wifi password and how to load the refrigerator.Our expectation was that all of the exterior doors would operate properly and would lock properly. The main wood-framed sliding door to the rear patio area was extremely difficult to open and lock. The Railey maintenance person worked wonders and adjusted the door rollers so that the door opened more easily. He stated that he would put in a work order to replace the door rollers and lock mechanism. He did manage to shim the lock latch some and showed us that by placing the lock lever in an intermediate position when closing the door, the door could then be locked.The kitchen size worked out ok. The kitchen refrigerator and ice maker worked well, but was smaller than expected and smaller than the refrigerator space provided. It was too small for a large group, e.g., for house that accommodated 17 people. We had expected a larger refrigerator (only that would fill the wall space provided and provide more food storage capacity).The laundry room refrigerator was also smaller than could have been provided. More importantly, when we arrived the laundry room refrigerator was not cool, i.e., was over 50 degrees. The refrigerator temperature was still over 50 degrees the next day. When we reported this, the Railey maintenance person carefully checked the operation and indicated that he believed the refrigerator was an older design but would cool further. The second day the laundry room refrigerator was cold. We expected that this secondary refrigerator would have been able to be cool on our arrival and more readily return to normal cooling temperatures.When we checked the kitchen, we discovered that all of the base cabinet drawers did not pull out without effort and that some of the wall cabinets doors were barely hanging on. Again, the Railey maintenance person who checked the refrigerator, carefully checked the cabinets and temporarily resecured the wall cabinet doors. He said he would put in a work order to better secure the cabinet doors.There was only one skillet provided which made preparing meals difficult. We did not immediately notice that some of the pots were not clean which caused some food spoilage for us. We ended up purchasing a pot for our use. Our expectation was a more complete set of pots and pans, and that they would be clean.Our expectation was that there would be sufficient flatware for the number of people the house accommodated. The flatware appeared to be a mix of two sets and appeared to be about 8 pieces of each utensil. The knives were also a mix of old pieces.Our expectation was that there would be some sort of “welcome” information, e.g., a map indicating were the community amenities (e.g., tennis court and mini-golf) could be found. There was nothing in this regard. There were no operating instructions for the equipment, e.g., hot-tub and TVs with multiple remotes. The TV in the game room had 4 remotes, all of which had dead batteries. Railey sent someone with new batteries for us to install. Our expectation was that the Railey person would have installed the batteries and confirmed proper operation of the TV and accessories. The TV in the was an older LG(?) with only one hdmi input. The was no universal remote or LG remote. It was not clear how to use the accessories provided (ROKU and Sony CD/internet box) with the TV. Any of the internet services, e.g., Netflix or Youtube, required the user to log-in with their own account. Our expectation was that there would have been some explanation as to how to connect the accessories to the TV, as well as the unit having at least basic cable TV. The pool room had an attached shower/bath. However, the valve to the hot water side of the sink was shut as the sink hot water valve did not fully close and would continuously run hot water. Our expectation was that all of the faucets and bath components would function normally and be clean. There was what appeared to be mold above the AC vent in the pool room bath. One of the pool “depth” tiles was not fixed to the floor but was loose. We were not expecting the pool room area to be so humid. We understand from the pool service people that there had been issues with the unit dehumidifying the pool room. We attempted to open the pool room sliding doors for a breeze but were not able to do so because of the pool alarm system. We understand from the pool service people that, because of the pool alarm system, opening the sliding doors was not possible.The bottom of some of the shower curtains were so discolored that we were not sure if they were just discolored or moldy. One bathroom had a missing/rotted trim piece that exposed the wall/window framing. That bathroom also was missing a towel bar (there was a mounting bracket and a wall mount but no towel bar). Also, in this bath there was a circular towel holder that had only one side attached to the wall mount with the other end not attached to anything, so this towel holder was not useable.Our expectation was that all of the sheets and bed coverings would be clean. The sheets themselves did appear to be clean. However, in one bedroom the bed spread had several dirty spots. In that bedroom one of the pillow shams had a large area that was soiled. It appeared that someone had a “runny” nose and used the pillow sham to wipe their nose.The doors in the upper bedrooms and baths did not all latch close or lock. The Railey person inspected these and temporarily repaired one bath pocket door lock and said the lock sets needed replacing. He indicated that the doors could be latched shut by applying an upward pressure on the lockset when the door was closed to raise the door lock latch into the frame recess.The air-conditioning on the pool room side of the house worked for the first few days. When the upper bedrooms did not return to the cooler temperature we reported the AC issue. Someone came out and “reset” something, but the AC did not return to normal operation and the upper rooms on the pool side of the house did not cool normally. We understood that this community had homes that were not waterside. We did not expect that people and so many) would travel across both the front and rear yards to reach the water/boats. We expected a dedicated boat slip and information of the location of that boat slip. We did not find any information and were told, by the boat slip inspector, that we were in the wrong slip and that our slip was not in front of the house but was further down the water’s edge.We did not expect the slip walkways, lawns, and driveway to have so much geese poop. This made walking and enjoying the lawns as a play area difficult.We expected some wear and tear but overall this house felt tired and maintenance ignored, e.g., in addition to the above, the exterior of the house showed areas that needed cleaning and/or painting. We did enjoy our stay but the house did not meet our expectations.

The issues you've raised regarding bathroom fixtures, air conditioning performance, and general upkeep are equally troubling to us; please rest assured that we take these matters seriously and will conduct a thorough review of our property maintenance protocols. Lastly, we apologize for any confusion related to boat slip access as well as concerns about outdoor cleanliness affecting your enjoyment of our grounds. While we are glad you enjoyed certain aspects of your visit, it is clear there is significant room for improvement based on your experience. Your feedback will be instrumental in helping us enhance future guest experiences at Waterfront Retreat. Wonderful location - nice house. Could have used a few additions: sleeps 17 but only plates and bowls for 14; only 2 noodles for pool and no other indoor or outdoor add-ons for kids; shower in downstairs bath does not get hot even though sink water is very hot. We had a nice relaxing week.

The house layout is perfect for our active family of eleven. The proximity to the lake is perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding. We enjoyed the well groomed 3-par, tennis court and fishing pond. Unfortunately, the driveway/yard of Waterfront Retreat has become more like the public access for renters from A Cut Above and other houses who have a dock slip directly in front of Waterfront Retreat. Geese also continue to be nuisance and safety concern, especially as staff sweeps the droppings off docks directly into the water where we swim.

Our family of 11 stayed comfortably for four nights over the Easter weekend. The lakefront setting was beautiful and the indoor pool kept our grandchildren happily entertained. The golf course was a big hit with the adults. It was a great stay for all ages- relaxing, fun, and full of memories.

This house was lovely and so comfortable. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed the heated pool, hot tub, and the game room! Everything was clean and organized and there was so much space/storage for us for our short stay. We are already planning our next trip here!

We had a great family getaway. The property was clean and comfortable, the pool and the hot tub were very popular with the kids, and the lakefront fire pit was a blast. We also loved having the golf course and the mini golf nearby. An all around great stay!

We love the layout of the house and amenities of the community. It would be perfect if the yard wasn’t covered with goose droppings. It might just be a problem in June, but it is impossible to get from the house to the water without stepping in goose poop.

This house, which we have rented for the past four years, is perfect for our family. We love the layout and amenities, but find the enormous amount of goose droppings in the yard a tun off.

We had an amazing stay despite the rain and the cold. This was our first visit in Garret county and Swanton. We absolutely loved it in the mountains. The residence is spacious, well maintained and absolutely recommended for a relaxed weekend. RV operates like a well-oiled machine and is doing an amazing job around Deep Creek. We look forward to booking again with them and buying in the future.

Very nice house. Only issue is the master bathroom has a very bad sewer smell, there is something wrong with the plumbing/drainage.

Was the perfect house for our family ranging in age from 4 to 75. We had so much to do at the house/community that we barely left. The lake has a shallow area at the shoreline there so my 4 year old could wade out and have fun splashing around. The pictures really don't do it justice, it felt much bigger in person than it seemed in the pictures. Pool and hot tub were serviced every day that we were there which I appreciate. Every email I have sent to Railey in the last 3 years of renting with them has been responded to within a few hrs.

We had a great time at this house. Everything was great overall and the location was perfect. Only complaint was the pull out couch mattress in the second floor bedroom was filthy, but all other beds seemed fine.

This was our second stay in Waterfront Retreat. We love the community amenities and the layout of the house is perfect for our family of 10. . We did take buckets and shovels and did daily goose dropping clean-ups which was necessary to navigate to the dock as there were about 100 geese in the yard every day. We golfed daily, used the tennis court and well stocked fishing pond. Kayaking was easy from the shore and the neighborhood is quiet.

Beautiful home/ kitchen needs new cookware

The house was beautiful and the kids loved swimming. There were some concerns in the kitchen. There are not enough cookware to use when cooking. We had to purchase cookware set from Walmart. A new set should be purchased to be able to make large meals. We also had to purchase a electric can opener to open cans. I would suggest purchasing a waffle iron as well. We spent more money buying cookware in order to cook then the buying food. Overall we enjoyed the house. The pool personnel came everyday to check the pool. It snowed during our stay and in the area where the pool table on the wall looks like air comes out of it it was leaking water when it snowed. I would suggest it someone take a look it to ensure the roof is not leaking

This house had everything we needed! Easy access to the dock and boating. Nice quiet neighborhood. The kids had a great time in the game room and pool. Great room was big enough for all 16 of us. Would definitely rent again!

This was by far our best DCL vacation and we have been visiting at least twice a year for over twenty years. We golfed, played yard games, swam, kayaked, fished and rented a paddle board.

This was our first trip to Deep Creek and we fell in love. The house was amazing. Being cold in March the amenities were perfect. The house was so clear and and directions on how everything worked was very clear.. Being right there on the lake all the house lights were simply amazing. We would recommend and love to rent this house again. Oh yes did I mention how extremely comfortable the beds are

Loved Waterfront Retreat. It fit our party of 11 adults and 3 kids comfortably. The place was spacious enough for everyone to spread out. There is plenty to do in the house and outside as it sits right on the lake and has a fire pit. There is only wifi here (no reception for T-Mobile and Verizon at least). Would love to come back again. Thank you!

Our family had a wonderful time at Waterfront Retreat. The house is in a very quiet place on the lake which we enjoyed. The amenities are fantastic from the swimming pool, to the hot tub, to the Par 3 golf course. During this time of social distancing and restrictions on restaurants, etc. this house was very spacious and gave our family a great place to spend the week together. We will be back again.

Clean home , the lake view is superb and steps away from the house with a fire pit outside . Private dock . The pool was an added bonus and so was the hot tub . The pool is clean . Special touches around the house. I liked that the house was able to accommodate dogs . Well stocked kitchen .

This house was perfect! We were 3 families (parents and children) who each had a private area of the house. Having the indoor pool with the Covid-19 restrictions was wonderful. The view was great, we used the fire pit every night. We even rented a boat, which was fun!

Waterfront Retreat is a great house for large or small groups! The living room can accommodate a lot of people but there is also a game room where others can hang out as well. The indoor pool is perfect and the hot tub is brand new! The furniture is new and very comfortable. The whole house is incredibly clean! Couldn't ask for more! Highly recommend!

This house is perfect for family or adult friends getaway. Plenty of space in pool room, game room, family room, and bedrooms were clean and spacious. Loved the kitchen with the bar stools at the large island.

The fire pit and lounge chairs are perfect for sunsets and star gazing. If you rent a boat, you can dock it right up front at the house. Many amenities including the pool table, foosball, hot tub and the swimming pool make it an unforgettable stay.
