Nice Quiet Spot

Very easy contactless process. Beautiful spot about 15 minutes from Swallow Falls and Wisp resort. Super quiet and cozy spot to get away. Was disappointed that the driveway and deck weren’t maintained. Snow thawed and then refroze so we had a solid sheet of ice on the steep driveway and all over the decks and stairs. Requested a treatment that never came.

We appreciate you taking the time out to leave us a review Joseph! So sorry to hear about the lack of upkeep on the driveway and back deck. We will be sure to reach out to our Guest Experience department as well as our maintenance department to ensure that this will be maintained in the future! Otherwise we are so pleased to hear that you and your family had a wonderful time together and please come see us again soon! Madison, Railey Vacations

The house is cozy and in a great location. While it hasn't been updated, the bones of the house are solid and the furniture is comfortable. But two things to really consider: 1) Railey Vacations doesn't offer any pantry items in the house so you have to bring everything. Although this was communicated ahead of time,it just wasn't clear to me the impact that would have on our stay. What is the point of vacationing when you have to bring/buy an entire house and kitchen pantry?! For what you pay, providing things like coffee filters, a kitchen sponge, trashbags, foil, plastic bags, salt/pepper, should be a given. 2) Before booking this house, reach out to RV to confirm if they've addressed a water issue. The water smell in this house was absolutely rancid. It smelled at the source of the various faucets and hot tub and left a lingering smell on our skin and hair. Real bummer for our stay.

Nikki, thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about your stay at Bunbury cottage. We are so happy to hear that the location and ambiance of the cottage were just what you were looking for, but are disappointed that your overall experience was impacted by the lack of a well stocked kitchen and the water. Bunbury cottage, like most homes in the Deep Creek lake area, is on a well with a filtration system. We understand the water has a unique taste and smell, but it is safe to use and consume; however, we will have our team check the filtration system to be sure everything is in order. We will also mention your suggestions about stocking the kitchen for future guests. Our homeowners do take guest experience very seriously hen considering updates and repairs to the property. We are glad that your overall experience was acceptable, but we want your experience to be extraordinary. When you're considering Deep Creek lake again, please give us a call. We know we can provide you with a vacation that exceeds your expectations. We would love to host you again. -Susan, Railey Vacations

Good location, cute cabin and perfect amount of space. Make sure you bring plenty of cleaning materials (dish soap/detergent/trash bags). The kitchen materials (plates/bowls/mugs/utensils) didn’t seem very clean so you might want to clean before use. The hot tub was not ready for use when we arrived but we were able to fill it and get it running for the weekend. Make sure you have 4-wheel drive in the winter- the driveway is a steep hill and some of our cars couldn’t make it up. Overall good experience and what we expected.

Hi, Danielle! I'm sorry to hear that a few issues arose during your stay. We do ask our guests to wash any used dishes prior to their departure and are sorry to learn that you arrived to find the dishes dirty. We'll relay your comments to our housekeeping team as a reminder that, though we ask guests to wash their dishes, this should be checked prior to the next reservation. We also regret that the hot tub was not prepared upon your arrival but are so glad to know that it was up-and-running for you soon afterward. With all of this in mind, I'm happy to know that your experience in Deep Creek was positive overall, and we hope for the opportunity to host you again soon! - Lainey, Railey Vacations

During our stay it was very cold outside(-14f) at night and we ended up spending over $200 in wood for the fireplace over 3 days to keep the living area at a comfortable Temperature. The baseboard heat upstairs worked amazing but, living area would not go above 52f cranked all the way up for 12 hours. Fireplace heated the area nicely but, being unprepared for this, we over paid locally for enough wood to keep us comfortable. Also when we arrived the hot tub was half full and not clean but, to Raileys credit they sent someone the next morning to get hot tub filled and cleaned but, was a slight inconvenience. Also there was a snowstorm leading upto the weekend we stayed. When we arrived the driveway was plowed though steep and icey we managed with AWD vehicle and a path to main door was shoveled and salted but, we did spend the 1st hour shoveling to the hot tub n cleaning it off and shoveling a path to the secondary entrance so we could use the deck to let our dog out. We will vacation in deep creek again with these lessons learned.

Hi, Ryan! I’m so sorry to hear about the issues you encountered during your stay. We’ll have our maintenance team take a look at the temperature regulation throughout Bunbury Cottage to ensure the home is a comfortable temperature for future guests. Further, we regret that the hot tub was not prepared upon your arrival; we will be sharing your comments with our team to prevent this occurrence from being repeated. Thank you for making us aware of these concerns. We sincerely hope that you were able to enjoy your time at Bunbury Cottage overall despite these hiccups and are looking forward to the opportunity of hosting you again in the future. - Lainey, Railey Vacations

Cabin is cute and cozy. But you cannot drink the water and there may be a pest issue

Hi, Helen! As mentioned in previous management responses, the water at Bunbury Cottage is sourced from a well, and though it has a unique taste and smell, it is safe to use and consume. That said, we will again have our team check the filtration system to be sure everything is in order. We’re sorry to hear that this was a disruption to your stay, and are especially regretful to learn that you suspected pests at the home. We’ve not previously received word of concern about mice, insects, etc. and we will be investigating this right away. Thanks so much for your review. Cabin Experience

The cabin could use some updating but the worst issue was the water. We didn’t cook with it, want to shower, or even give it to my dog to drink. The smell of the water was absolutely awful so we ended up leaving Sunday night instead of Monday. The cleaning fee was almost as much as the 3 night stay which was shocking as well. I have stayed in cabins in multiple states and nothing is ever perfect; nor do we expect it to be. However, this one didn’t quite meet expectations.

Hi there, Celes! I’m so sorry to hear that your group experienced some discomfort regarding the water. While much of the water in Deep Creek is sourced from wells and therefore has a unique taste and smell, it is entirely safe to use and consume. That said, we will have our maintenance team ensure that the water filtration system is functioning properly at Bunbury Cottage. Thank you for alerting us to your concern! We understand that hesitancy regarding your rental’s water source is a major inconvenience and we sincerely hope for the opportunity to remedy any of your lingering disappointment from this experience with a fantastic DCL getaway in the future. - Lainey, Railey Vacations

Cozy cabin with a couple issues

Stayed here over the weekend of 10/28-10/30. First and foremost we really like the cabin. It’s perfect size for a small family or a couples weekend. The decor is lake cabin appropriate and the kitchen has everything you need. I would definitely rent again. That said, the water issue hasn’t been exaggerated. You can’t drink it or cook with it. It smells and tastes like rust. Overwise it’s a great option for people who aren’t too fussy

I’m glad to hear that you had a good time at Bunbury Cottage overall, Keith! We appreciate you emphasizing your concerns regarding the water - we’re going to have our maintenance team take another look at the filtration system to see where there is room for improvement. We’ll also discuss actions with the homeowner, as high-quality water is non-negotiable in our eyes. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Late July stay

It is a relaxing house. If the neighbors are quiet! The first half of our stay the people next door were the partying type and very loud, made it very hard to relax and sleep. Lots of kitchen supplies, the only thing I couldn't find was oven mitts of any type which made cooking a little difficult. The house itself is cozy and we liked the decor. The couch in the living room was perfect. Not all the lamps were working in the living room, the TV was pretty small and not so good. We didn't even try the bedroom TVs. The beds were not very comfortable. The shower upstairs is a very tight squeeze. The water in general was not good. I have experience with well water but I've never seen anything like this. Or tasted anything like that. We literally smelled like rust after showering or washing your hands. We didn't even try the hot tub the water was just so unpleasant. My scared dog did ok with walking along the shoulder of the road most days and once we found the little walkway to the lake that was a nice length walk for him. In summary, the house is cute and cozy, could use some TLC touch ups for sure (the upstairs floor was looking a little iffy) and the water is something else...definitely bring lots of bottled water along. Anything we reached out to the Railey representatives for they were quick to respond and help with whatever they could help with, which was very nice.

Thanks for your feedback, Elizabeth! I’m sorry to hear that a few aspects of your stay didn’t meet your expectations and appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Please know that we are always here to lend a hand with any disruptions that pop up, including noisy neighbors. In the future, don’t hesitate to give us a call and we will do our best to resolve the problem promptly for you. We’ve shared your comments regarding the kitchenware, TVs, bedding, and upstairs flooring with the homeowner for reference when updating Bunbury Cottage. Thanks for your input! We’ll also have our maintenance team take a look at the lamps to be sure these are working properly for our future guests. While the well water does have a unique taste and smell, it is safe to use and consume. That said, we’ll have our team check this out, too, to be sure everything is in order. The house is nice and furnished with taste, problem - not strong water pressure. Water is not of a drinking quality (probably true for the whole lake area) so it is better to buy clean water for cooking and drinking. A cute house but a little bit dark.

Hi, Yevgeniya! Thanks so much for your review - we're glad you had a great time overall. We'll take a look to see if there is any room for improvement regarding the water pressure. Only because of the location of the house. We brought our dog and we had to drive to take him for a walk as the cars were going too fast to walk him on that road.

Hi, Thomas! Thanks for your review - I'm sorry to hear that the location wasn't suitable for walks with your pup. If you would prefer a more isolated home for your next stay in Deep Creek, our wonderful reservationists can lend a hand in finding a place that meets all of your needs. Please feel free to give us a call anytime to begin the search for your next home-away-from-home. I'm happy to know that this inconvenience didn't prevent you from having a good time overall! We hope to host you again soon. - Lainey, Railey Vacations

We have been to Deep Creek Lake many times in the past couple of years and this weekend was one of the best ever. We had a fast, friendly check in with treats awaiting our pup when we arrived. Bunbury Cottage was perfect for cozy evenings by the fire even though it rained quite a bit the first day and a half. The kitchen had everything we needed, it was well-stocked and incredible clean, the hot tub on the deck was great were checking out the stars and we felt completely at home. An awesome fall weekend at Bunbury Cottage!
